Tevel has two synergetic, equally important goals

We strive….

and disseminate the most effective and sustainable methods for ending poverty and environmental devastation, and for spreading knowledge and empowerment.

and strengthen the connection between the Jewish people and the marginalized and impoverished populations of the developing world.

a community of Jewish and Israeli activists who have the hands-on experience and skills to change the world.

a path for Jews to integrate universalism and Jewish identity and enliven the Jewish discourse on economic justice, poverty and the environment.

We believe……

IT IS SPIRITUALLY AND ETHICALLY UNACCEPTABLE THAT MILLIONS OF PEOPLE IN OUR WORLD DON’T HAVE SUFFICIENT NUTRITION, CLEAN WATER, HOUSING, BASIC HEALTH OR EDUCATION.THIS REALITY CAN AND MUST BE CHANGED.

We want to learn from those whom we also want to help. Therefore our projects are led by local staff and community leaders, enhanced and enriched by the work of our volunteers. We believe that changing the world means changing our own society and the ways in which we live and think, as much as helping impoverished people in developing countries. We believe that quick-fixes just don’t work in the developing world. Therefore we use a long-term intervention method that looks at a community as a whole, and addresses issues such as education, agriculture, health and women’s empowerment in a holistic way. We believe that It is the Jewish people’s right and duty to participate in creating a new vision for rebuilding the world, by means of thought, words, and action; for the purpose of shaping a better, more just future for all of humanity. Our Jewish heritage contains much wisdom which can elucidate crucial issues and guide us towards the path of “Tikun Olam”. Cooperation between Israeli and Diaspora Jews in attaining social and environmental justice in the third world will reawaken Jewish identity, strengthen Israel, and benefit impoverished communities.
